2024 ITCSC Summer Research Program at The Chinese University of Hong Kong
The Institute of Theoretical Computer Science and Communications (ITCSC) is organizing a *** Summer Research Program from July 2, 2024 to August 23, 2024. ****
The purpose of this summer research program is to bring together interested undergraduate students majoring in the broad area of information sciences and mathematics from all over the world and introduce them to research problems of interest to the various researchers of the institute. The students are then expected to work together (along with mentors) to try and solve a few of these problems, thus getting a first-hand research experience.
Broadly speaking, the research interests of the mentors lie in the following
areas:
- Information theory (classical, multiuser, and quantum)
- Machine learning (optimization, interpretability)
- Coding theory (classical, modern)
- Graphical models
- Optimization (theory and algorithms)
- Questions that span these areas and also problems in the intersection of
these areas with other areas in mathematics
Apart from the semi-structured first two weeks of introduction to various research areas and problems, the summer research program will also feature regular lectures, meetings, and a final presentation.
*** Undergraduate students of information science areas (electrical engineering, computer science, etc.) and mathematics from universities from all over the world are welcome to apply. ***
Invitations will be sent to a selected number of students based on the quality of the applications and budgetary considerations. Should you be invited, ITCSC will provide a lump-sum amount that would normally cover your airfare and local expenses.
Concerning visas: for successful applicants, CUHK will apply for the relevant visa and mail it to the applicant, i.e., there is no need to go to an embassy.
Please fill out the following form by 20 February 2024: https://cloud.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/webform/view.php?id=13682425
Inquiries should be sent to Prof. Pascal Vontobel via cuhk.itcsc.summerschool@gmail.com.
